What UTM Parameters Do (and Why GA4 Needs Them)
When someone clicks a plain link in an email or social post, Google Analytics often can't tell where they came from — the visit lands in direct or an unhelpful referral bucket. UTM parameters fix that: five standardized query tags that GA4 reads on arrival and maps straight into its traffic-acquisition reports. utm_source names the platform (google, facebook, newsletter), utm_medium the channel type (cpc, email, social) and utm_campaign the promotion, so every click is attributed exactly where it belongs.
Consistency is everything. GA4 is case-sensitive — "Facebook" and "facebook" become two different sources and quietly split your data. This builder warns you about capitals and spaces, encodes special characters correctly, and keeps a live preview so you can see the final URL before you paste it into your ad platform or email tool. Pair it with the Meta Tag Previewer to perfect how the landing page itself looks when shared, or shorten long reports with the Word Counter for your ad copy limits.
