How the Difference Is Calculated

The calculator walks the real calendar between your two dates: it first computes the exact years, months and days breakdown (respecting 28–31-day months and leap days), then the raw totals — days, weeks, hours and minutes. That's why "1 month" from January 31 correctly lands on February 28/29, not a fictional January 61.

By default the end date is excluded (Monday → Friday = 4 days). Tick include end date for inclusive counting — common for hotel bookings, rentals, billing periods and deadlines.

Common Uses

  • Deadlines & projects: days remaining until a due date or launch.
  • Travel: trip length, visa windows, booking spans.
  • Legal & billing: notice periods, contract durations, invoice terms.
  • Personal: anniversaries, countdowns — and for exact age in years, months and days, use our Age Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Pick a start and an end date — the calculator counts every calendar day in between, including leap days, and breaks the span into exact years, months and days.
Does the calculation include the end date?
By default no (Monday to Friday = 4 days). Turn on "include end date" to count it as well — common for deadlines, rentals and billing periods.
Are leap years handled correctly?
Yes. Real calendar dates are used, so February 29 in leap years (2024, 2028…) is counted automatically.
Why do months give different day counts?
Months vary from 28 to 31 days, so the exact breakdown depends on the actual months in your range — this tool walks the real calendar instead of assuming 30-day months.
